GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 500425
Get Quotes does not function
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:55:23 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #437803 +++ Please describe the problem: Hitting the "Get Quotes" button in the Price Editor returns the message "There was a system error while retrieving the price quotes." This error message *could* be made more helpful. Steps to reproduce: 1. Tools 2. Price Editor 3. Get Quotes Actual results: Pop-up appears with the message "There was a system error while retrieving the price quotes." Expected results: Does this happen every time? Yes, every time. Other information: My system is SuSE 10.2, fully patched. Get Quotes worked fine under SuSE 10.1. Since 10.2 did not come with install-finance-quotes (name?), I used cpan to install the get-finance-quotes perl scripts. Happens in openSUSE 10.3 with all the perl scripts installed from the DVD. gnc-fq-dump works. Has been reported to gnucash-user mailing list.
Why is this cloned from a perfectly good bug? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 437803 ***
Because it has not been resolved for openSUSE 10.3 and updating the perl scripts via CPAN and gnc-fq-update has NOT resolved the bug. I added info that gnc-fq-dump works so it must be in the integration of fq and gnucash. gnucash --debug doesn't help and gnucash --add-price-quotes also fails.
Oh ... that sort of thing should just be a comment on the existing bug; there's no need to open a new bug. However, the previous bug has changed semantics a bit to complaining about the error message. Regardless, please take this downstream to Suse, or to gnucash-user. Your system being misconfigured is not a gnucash bug.
