GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 498979
gedit goes in background if there is already an instance launched
Last modified: 2009-01-03 15:34:34 UTC
Please describe the problem: When gedit is already started, every invocation of gedit stop immediatly (while opening the file). This is a major problem because it prevents from using gedit in the EDITOR environment variable. For example there is no way I could say I want "sudo -e" or "visudo" or many others program to use gedit since they expect gedit not to stop until the file is closed. Steps to reproduce: 1. open gedit once 2. open gedit a second time 3. the second invocation returns immediatly Actual results: the second invocation returns immediatly Expected results: gedit stops only when the opened file is closed Does this happen every time? yes Other information:
Well, if there is any workaround to bne found (like a script that wraps a call to gedit and only returns when the file is closed) I would be glad to hear about it. Actually I don't know how this can be achieved.
