Please describe the problem:
it's often not possible to reduce the size of the side pane

Steps to reproduce:
1. switch the side pane to thumbnails mode
2. make the side pane accommodate 2 columns of thumbnails
3. try to shrink it back to 1 column
4. fail

the same effect is possible in the index-mode

Actual results:
its not possible to reduce the size of the pane

Expected results:


Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
I'm using evince 0.8.3 on debian/testing
