GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 496809
Use more than one line for entries in playlist
Last modified: 2007-12-10 16:24:55 UTC
Fairly often, filenames don't fit in the playlist without making it unreasonably wide. How about using more than one row per entry? Maybe two and ellipsize the text? (Seems to me most files in Nautilus make do with two rows.) Or as many as are needed (a la Nautilus)? Yes, there's a horizontal scrollbar but horizontal scrollbars are evil. (It's one of the axioms in Alan Cooper's About Face 2.0. "Never scroll text horizontally.") :)
We know :) Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 352553 ***
Hummm... is it really a dup of 352553? This bug was about using more than one text row per entry (and perhaps even using the number of text rows neded to display the whole filename regardless of its length... but I'm not sure about that one). I think using two rows, ellipsizing, a thumbnail (see bug 496802) and perhaps even a tooltip would be enough to remove the horizontal scrollbar. I don't think a tooltip alone will do it. (I'm not even sure a tooltip is a good idea at all... will have to think a bit more on that one.)
Ping? (Don't know if you bothered reading my ramblings in comment 2 so I'll shorten it down... =) You don't think using e.g. two rows per entry and ellipsizing is a good idea?
No, not really.
