GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 496578
crash in Open Folder: Within nautilus, I creat...
Last modified: 2007-11-14 10:01:51 UTC
Version: 2.18.3 What were you doing when the application crashed? Within nautilus, I created two new folders within another folder. I moved some files that were in the parent folder into one of the child folders. Nautilus crashed. Now every time I click on the parent folder in the Tree view to open it, nautilus crashes. I have no problems accessing the folder and opening files within it using a terminal. jackd is running, taking up some cpu. I have a reiserfs filesystem and I'm running gentoo with gnome 2.18.3. The latest dmesg error is related to my wireless card.. eth1: MAC controller error (WTERR). Ignoring. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, the stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Could you please help fixing this by installing some debugging packages [1], start the application as normal, and try to reproduce the crash, if possible? Once bug-buddy pops up, you can find the stacktrace in the 'Details', now containing way more information. Please copy that stacktrace and paste it as a comment here. Thanks in advance! [1] Please install debug packages for nautilus, glib2, gtk2, pango, gnome-vfs2, libgnome, and libgnomeui. More details can be found here: http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces
ok, I followed the instructions enable debugging info and reproduced the crash. It crashes whenever I click on any folder name in the tree-view. I can click on an folder arrow to expand the branch okay, but clicking on the folder name to show the folder contents makes the crash occur. Also, double clicking on a folder name in the main window area to open it causes the crash to happen too. So I made a couple new stack traces. The first one is by clicking on a folder name in the tree-view. The second one is by double clicking a folder in the main window area. Also.. you should probably know that I am running gnome over vnc (vino) because my laptop lcd is broken. Let me know if you need anything else. thanks Jon Distribution: Gentoo Base System release 1.12.9 Gnome Release: 2.18.3 2007-11-03 (Gentoo) BugBuddy Version: 2.18.1 System: Linux 2.6.22-gentoo-r9 #2 PREEMPT Sun Nov 4 17:12:41 EST 2007 i686 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 10300000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: Simple Icon Theme: gnome Memory status: size: 77529088 vsize: 77529088 resident: 24436736 share: 18489344 rss: 24436736 rss_rlim: 4294967295 CPU usage: start_time: 1195021054 rtime: 188 utime: 166 stime: 22 cutime:0 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/nautilus' Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1". 0xffffe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
