What were you doing when the application crashed?
Testing the audio configurations as audio reception was not working. Testing with a Tandberg H323 gatekeeper. I get video and audio, can transmit video, but cannot transmit audio. Audio codec select was PCMU.

Ekiga has been crashing regulary on Fedora 7.

It's unfortunately an alsa bug : try to upgrade that, ekiga can't do much if the drivers fail miserably.
