I would like to suggest a whole facelift for the app. As GNOME is migrating toward a full Tango style desktop, gconf-editor seems to be one that not yet have eye candy touch.

The gconf folder encompasses of many key types of which icons can be revamped on the basis of icon reuse. It's not wise using static icons.
