Description Matt Smith 2007-11-06 12:41:22 UTC
Please describe the problem:
My scanner driver has an option "Automatically quit ScanGear CS after scanning". A check mark in this option causes ScanGear CS to automatically close after a scan. The GIMP ignores this option and ScanGear CS is automatically closed after a scan if this option is not checked. This option works in other programs but not GIMP.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Uncheck "Automatically quit ScanGear CS after scanning" option in ScanGear preferences
2. Run GIMP and select File > Acquire > Scanner/Camera ...
3. Scan

Actual results:
After a scan, ScanGear CS is automatically closed. And scanned image is displayed.

Expected results:
After a scan, scanned image is displayed. And ScanGear CS is stays open. Ready for another scan.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
I am using Windows XP. This problem occurs in GIMP 2.X and later.

The TWAIN plug-in is effectively not maintained. We know that it is broken. If you want to work on it, patches are welcome.

See bug #143855 (and the various bugs that have been duplicated to it) for other issues.

Is there problems with the TWAIN plug-in on Linux or UNIX? Or Windows, mostly?
Comment 4 Michael Schumacher 2007-11-08 10:45:23 UTC
There is no TWAIN on Linux. It is used on Windows and OS X, but the code used is different.

Working on this could be a task for someone who does have some experience regarding TWAIN, but not necessarily with GIMP development.
