GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 493776
DVD erasing error
Last modified: 2008-02-24 12:49:51 UTC
After erasing DVD+RW disk I'm getting error message from Gnome. It can't mount erased disk. There is no same problem with CD-RW disks.
That's normal. In fact DVD+RW are not meant to be erased. What brasero does is that it overwrites the first 64k of the DVD so as to destroy the filesystem entries (data remains). But it does not erase any information from the medium "TOC". When GNOME sees such a DVD+RW (once formatted) it thinks the medium should be mountable since there is a session and it tries to but fails to read the file system hence the message. When CDRW are erased the drive removes all traces of the burnt session from the "TOC" of the CDRW so for GNOME there is nothing burnt on it. Maybe we could do better that this. I'll think about it.
It's really needed to do something with it. Sometimes after erasing DVD+RW disk I can't write on it and I have to use "best disk burner soft, that works correctly". I don't want to install and use KDE soft on Gnome, I want to use simple and beautiful Brasero. P.S. Sometimes even I choose fast erase mode Brasero working on it over some minutes instead 5-10 seconds.
