GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 493262
crash in Open Folder: This happens every time ...
Last modified: 2007-11-06 10:59:59 UTC
Version: 2.18.3 What were you doing when the application crashed? This happens every time I "right click - properties". Whether it's a folder or a file, always crashes now. Only after recent updates. (ie. today) Distribution: Debian lenny/sid Gnome Release: 2.18.3 2007-07-03 (Debian) BugBuddy Version: 2.18.1 System: Linux 2.6.22-2-k7 #1 SMP Fri Aug 31 01:02:37 UTC 2007 i686 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 10300000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: Smoked Glass Icon Theme: glass-icons Memory status: size: 102158336 vsize: 102158336 resident: 36507648 share: 17563648 rss: 36507648 rss_rlim: 4294967295 CPU usage: start_time: 1194138816 rtime: 3335 utime: 2715 stime: 620 cutime:0 cstime: 2 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/nautilus' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". Update: I removed gnome-desktop-environment, and installed gnome-core and nautilus from unstable; no more crashes.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, the stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Could you please help fixing this by installing some debugging packages [1], start the application as normal, and try to reproduce the crash, if possible? Once bug-buddy pops up, you can find the stacktrace in the 'Details', now containing way more information. Please copy that stacktrace and paste it as a comment here. Thanks in advance! [1] Please install debug packages for nautilus, glib2, gtk2, pango, gnome-vfs2, libgnome, and libgnomeui. More details can be found here: http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces
I downgraded everything back to testing, and installed the debugging packages. The crash is back, but only for audio/video/picture files. If I right-click -- properties on, say, a text file or folder, everything is normal. Here's the new output from trying to get the properties window from an mp3 file: Distribution: Debian lenny/sid Gnome Release: 2.18.3 2007-07-03 (Debian) BugBuddy Version: 2.18.1 System: Linux 2.6.22-2-k7 #1 SMP Fri Aug 31 01:02:37 UTC 2007 i686 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 10300000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: Smoked Glass Icon Theme: glass-icons Memory status: size: 89767936 vsize: 89767936 resident: 40177664 share: 16199680 rss: 40177664 rss_rlim: 4294967295 CPU usage: start_time: 1194307243 rtime: 607 utime: 580 stime: 27 cutime:0 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/nautilus' Using host libthread_db library "/lib/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". The gnome 2.20 environment is trickling into Debian testing in pieces, so this may be due to mismatching package versions.. I would guess anyways. Also, I have another system running Debian testing, and this problem doesn't exist there. I see messages at the end of the output regarding java, and I've been having a problem with the azureus AzSMRC plugin (for remote azureus control) sometimes freezing on the crash-prone system, yet the other system, running azureus itself, has no issues.
