The notification area icon flashing is quite annoying. I think that icons in the notification area should not need to flash to draw attention to themselves; they do so simply by being present in the notification area in the first place.

Edit -> Plugins -> Mail Notification -> Configuration (tab)

Uncheck "Blink icon in notification area".
