GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 491404
Partial File Name Matches?
Last modified: 2011-07-10 02:25:04 UTC
I have noticed that typing only the beginning of the file names will make them appear, but not words that appear somewhere besides the beginning of the file names. Other information: For instance, if you have a file named "ubuntu_owns_joo.txt" in the home directory, typing in "ubuntu" in the deskbar search will find the file... typing in "owns" or "joo" does not find the file.
Thanks for reporting this bug. Is this issue related to the files module or tracker module?
I honestly don't know the difference, I just pulled open the deskbar applet search and typed in the field that opens with the default install of the app in Ubuntu Gutsy.
additionally, it seems that files starting with Capital letters are not found in the search, the search should be case independent for instance, create a file named Test in ~. typing "test" and "Test" should find it, but don't. Same applies to words with multiple caps like "README"
I was just looking in to this, and it looks like it's fixed? I ran into some crashes, so I'm going to try to attach gdb and grab a trace, not that it's related to this bug though.
No it's not fixed. Maybe you have beagle or tracker module enabled.
The corresponding launchpad bug report states this has been fixed upstream in tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/deskbar-applet/+bug/202429 Does that affect this bug?
This bug is not related to tracker but purely deskbar-applet. The bug is still present in deskbar-applet. If you are talking about some bug in tracker this is the wrong bug.
I thought having tracker match partial file names would affect this, but now I understand that it’s not about the tracker backend. Sorry for the noise.
deskbar-applet development has been stalled [1]. Maintainers don't have future development plan so i am closing the bugs as WONTFIX. [1] http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2011-June/msg00073.html
