GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 491064
Need for an option to view downloaded files after downloads are finished
Last modified: 2011-04-01 17:03:30 UTC
Consider the following use case: on the web site of my bank, I can download account transaction information as PDF files. I always save these files in a certain directory in my home dir (let's assume ~/bank), and I also take a look at them immediately after I have downloaded them. In Epiphany, this workflow is much more cumbersome than in Firefox: - Either I set Epiphany to download and open all files automatically. I cannot set Epiphany to download all files to ~/bank automatically: I don't want other files to end up there. So I have to set something like ~/Desktop, and then I'm forced to move the file with Nautilus after each download, which is annoying. - Either I set Epiphany not to download and open downloaded files. I get a pop-up, asking me wether I want to save or open it. I cannot click on Open, because then the file will not get saved in the bank directory. So I click on Save, and choose ~/Bank. The file is downloaded. After the download has finished, the download manager is hidden automatically, and to open the file, I have to open Nautilus and navigate to ~/bank. Again two seperate steps are needed. In Firefox I do it like this: I save the file, and choose ~/bank as the save location. After the download finishes, the download manager is still visibile on the screen (or if I closed it by accident, I can open it from the Tools menu). There the download is still shown, and I can click on Open to open the file immediately. Never I have to start Nautilus to move the file or navigate to ~/bank to be able to open it. Epiphany should also have the option of not hiding the download manager when downloads finished, and the download window should have a button to open a certain downloaded file. Other information:
We more or less accomodate this workflow now, in 3.0 I mean. Feel free to make suggestions about it.
