Description Mr T 2007-10-25 16:10:07 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I use music player Rhythmbox 0.11.2. When i start to listen a mp3 song with it, there is a red circle with a white line next to the mp3 song. When i click that, then a dialog opens:
Playback error: Internal GStreamer error: state change failed. Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GStreamer.

There are a lot of Gstreamer related packages installed. I did not know which version to choose in the list on the previous page of this bugzilla reporting GUI.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open Rhytmbox 0.11.2
2. select a mp3 song to be played
3. click on the red circle next to the song

Actual results:
The dialog box opens

Expected results:
the mp3 song to be played

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
The root cause is that after upgrading to Gutsy, my sound card stopped working. It used to work in Feisty (after some sw update as it did not work with that version in the beginning either) I have a Creative SB Live! 24-bit external sound card. I have chosen this soundcard in the volume control as well as set it up in System->Preferences->Sounds where there is another indication of some problem as the test button brings up a dialog saying audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open resource for writing.. I know this is not a GStreamer bug, but the "state change failed" issue mentioned above is.

This is most likely a configuration problem (the error message is just very bad
and not the proper one that you should be seeing).

Go to System => Preferences => Sound and choose a different sound output
method or install the esd sound daemon.
