Description jeremy fisher 2007-10-23 09:43:24 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I just upgraded from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 and sticky notes no longer work properly. They do not hide when I click on the desktop. They also do not hide when I click on the Sticky Notes icon in the panel (although I'm not sure if they're supposed to display this second behavior).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a sticky note
2. Click on desktop

Actual results:
Sticky note remains visible, does not hide.

Expected results:
Sticky note ought to hide when clicking on the desktop.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

This also happens to me on Fedora 8. As I recall, it worked fine on Fedora 7. Maybe this bug is considered a feature, but adding an option to control this behaviour would be nice as it is far more convenient to hide the note by clicking on the desktop. It also mirrors real-world actions - stickies on real desktops are ignored or covered when the desk is in use.

I get this bug too, on Ubuntu 7.10.
To hide the notes is a fiddly operation, right click, select, click. They should hide when the user clicks on the sticky notes icon (the icon more intuitively toggling show and hide).

Also, if I click on the "Show Desktop Button", or Ctrl-Alt-D then the desktop is displayed, and the notes are hidden.

Clicking on the icon hides the notes as of 2.25.1. I'm still looking into how and why clicking on the desktop stopped working.

I confirm this in Ubuntu 8.10, sticky notes 2.24.1. "Hide" option in right-click works, clicking the background doesn't.

Ah, I think I get it. In past versions, you could hide the notes by clicking the desktop background; as of 2.25.x, it changed to hide by clicking the applet (clicking the applet now toggle the notes). But Ubuntu Intrepid shipped with 2.24, which I guess is lost in transition; it doesn't hide by clicking the background, nor clicking the applet. I backported 2.25 to Intrepid and it works.

Also, I believe the documentation should be updated.
