Description Gerald Boersma 2007-10-18 22:57:17 UTC
I love the automatic bullets in Tomboy. However, whenever I copy and paste from a note into another app (such as an Evolution e-mail or text file) the tabbing for the bulleted items is lost. I usually have to go through and manually fix the indents.

Is there anyway to do this automatically as part of pasting in the text from tomboy into another app?

Marking as a dupe of bug #431014, and copying comment over there. Thanks for the bug report...I think this is the same as our copy/paste into OpenOffice.org problem.

I don't see this as a duplicate of 431014. That bug report is specific to the fact that the characters for the bullets are not pasted correctly in O-O.

This is more of a usability enhancement request for indenting the bulleted lines in other applications to appear the same way they appear in the Tomboy note.
Comment 3 Sandy Armstrong 2007-10-19 01:43:41 UTC
So you don't want the bullets; you just want the indents? I don't have Evolution on had to test right now. What exactly are you getting in evo when you paste a bulleted list from Tomboy?
Comment 4 Gerald Boersma 2007-10-19 14:37:16 UTC
I want both- the bullet and the indent.

When I copy a set of indented bullets from Tomcat into this text box, I get the following:

• This is first bullet
∘ This is the first sub-bullet
‣ This is the first sub-sub bullet
∘ This is the second sub-bullet
∘ This is the third sub-bullet
• This is the second bullet

The icons for the bullets are displayed correctly, but each line is not indented properly. This is what I see in other applications as well.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. You're right; this is not a dupe.

Setting the default assignee and QA Contact to "tomboy-maint@gnome.bugs".
Comment 7 Joel Bennett 2008-10-23 21:10:49 UTC
I think this *is* a dupe, in the sense that the problem in both cases is that you're copying the "bullets" as text, rather than treating the list items as a rich text bulleted list ... and you also don't respect lists when they're pasted back to Tomboy.
Comment 8 Sandy Armstrong 2009-11-14 00:09:20 UTC
Agree with Joel. We've repurposed bug #431014 to be about properly formatting what we put on the clipboard, so this bug can now be considered a dupe.
