GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 487782
Calculator can't convert 3e5 from hex to decimal
Last modified: 2007-10-19 13:48:47 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I try to convert 3e5 from hex to decimal on the Gnome calculator the result is... 300000. Maybe it confuses the exponential notation with hexadecimals. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start calculator 2. Change to hex 3. Enter 3e5 4. Change to dec Actual results: The result is 300000 Expected results: The correct result is 997 Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
I suspect this is a duplicate of bug #308408. What does "gcalctool -version" print out?
I have gcalctool version 5.9.14. BTW on my gcalctool I couldn't recreate bug #308408
I must have been tired when I previously replied. In gcalctool for v5.9.14 and all the way up to and including the one in GNOME 2.20, hex numbers had to be input in upper case. 3e5 is inputting an exponential number (30000). hex 3E5 is decimal 997. For the next version of gcalctool, it's been reverted to the way it was before 2003. See bug #469245 for all the gory details. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 469245 ***
