GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 487547
Use flush and utf8 options for vfat by default
Last modified: 2012-02-28 12:30:10 UTC
We should default to using flush for vfat, helps prevent data los.
Created attachment 97362 [details] [review] patch Note, g-v-m has been doing this for a while if the option was exposed in hal.
Created attachment 99440 [details] [review] utf8/flush defaults Update to include utf8 as the default for vfat as well.
Please add utf8 option for mounting vfat filesystems. It is extremely needed or else gnome will fail to work correctly in many localized environments. (e.g. I'm unable to create a new "untitiled folder" in my USB stick since I'm using fa locale and gnome is unable to create an untitled folder with its localized name, it is in UTF-8 format)
Any news on this one? Thanks
Maybe noatime option would also help with performance: https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=36051
HAL depends on gnome-mount to enable the correct character encoding. This is already done my newbie-friendly distros, but I don't see any reason to don't have this upstream ASAP.
"gnome-mount" will not see active development anymore according to its developers (as HAL is also dead). Closing this report as WONTFIX - Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
