EoG should have a side bar. In the side bar could be some information, for example file browser or properties. You can be inspire by Gedit (allow some plugins for view of switching between the information).

The directory chosen in the file browser would display in the collection.

yeah such sidebar would be terrific, at least the sidebar file browser would speed up file view.

The Exif Display plugin is already able to display EXIF data in the side panel, all we would need is to add the infos from the File>Properties dialog there (namely Image size, dimensions and type, maybe date).

IMO no need for a complete file browser, isn't the image gallery enough?

This is fixed in 3.4.2-1 (View>Side Pane)
