GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 485329
older dia release documents dont open
Last modified: 2007-10-17 12:51:34 UTC
Please describe the problem: i and other colleagues installed the latest version (0.96.1) and try to open old documents created with older versions of dia. extension is .dia i always get this message (in italian) "Si è verificato un errore mentre caricavo il diagramma R:\<path>\<document name>.dia Questo tipo di file è sconosciuto." literally it says 'this filetype is unknown' (!) The only one that can open these older documents id the one that didnt updated his version. if i click directly on an older dia document, it simply nothing happens.... Steps to reproduce: 1. open an older version dia document (,dia) 2. click directly on older version dia document (.dia) 3. Actual results: from file/open i get an error by clicking directly on (.dia) document , nothing happens Expected results: open a document Does this happen every time? yes Other information: iam running on winxp platform totally updated
Judging from the drive letter, this bug might be a duplicate of bug #485329. Could you copy the files to a local drive (e.g. C:) and try to open them there?
i copied it from shared resource to my desktop and then clicked twice on a .dia file. it gives me a popup where it says that a connection point doesnt exist, BUT this time he opened it and i can operate on it correctly. thanks for aid. so now i only have to look at bug #485329 to get solution i suppose. bye for now
sorry, iam new of bugzilla and didnt noticed that bug #485329 is my own open case. So, please, can you tell me how to solve it in the case i have to open a .dia document on a shared resource? (my disk R: for example). On documents on the same pc it works fine. thanks. Michele
Closing this bug report because it is a duplicate. Sorry for referring to the wrong bug number first. Hans has added instructions how to gather further information about this problem using FileMon to bug #436958. My problem is that I cannot reproduce the problem (I've tried to open files from a network share and it works for me). It would also be interesting to know, if other GTK+ programs, such as the GIMP can access files on that share. Additional information that could help: Exact Operating system information for the client and server. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 436958 ***
thanks for answering. i downloaded GIMP (last version) and GTK package and installed it on my pc. It works fine and i can open images files from R: path. is this helpful for you?
It's an important piece of information, thank you! If you feel like experimenting, you could now copy the GIMP GTK+ files over the Dia GTK+ files to see if a different GTK+ version solves the problem. BE CAREFUL, THIS MIGHT DESTROY YOUR DIA INSTALLATION. So make a backup copy of your dia folder or prepare for a new Dia installation. Note that this requires some skills because the DLLs need to be replaced. The following might be easier (and should be more helpful to the Dia developers): As Hans has suggested, download http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Filemon.mspx Start the program and try to open the file again. The Filemon will display a lot of information, but it offers a lot of filters. You can try to filter for dia.exe for the filename you are trying to open. If the tool reports an error for the file in question, please report the error here. If you don't see an error message, this information is also helpful.
here iam . i tried to swap gtk files between GIMP and Dia (GIMP has v.2.0, Dia has V.2.10.0), but then i was unable to open Dia. Using FileMon instead, this is what is reported as soon as i try to open a file on a R: path. (Can you see those 'PATH NOT FOUND'?) In the while, a Dia popup tell me that this file is unknown... 12.14.40 diaw.exe:276 IRP_MJ_CREATE R:\Unità\Sistemi rete e sicurezza\Sicurezza\Dia\Schemi\ SUCCESS Options: Open Directory Access: I think it's not the network drive causing problems, but the "à". Could you try to rename this folder to use ASCII letters like "a". That said, this is a bug that I'll try to reproduce.
ok solved! i have not the permission to rename directories in that shared resource, so i copied a .dia document from that path to r:/TEMP/. From there i can open it without errors. so, the new version of gtk is so 'sensible' to path name? Gimp (that use an older GTK version) doesnt have any problem to manage it. Anyway the problem is solved. many thanks . You are doing a great job. Michele
