Description christian.glodt 2001-09-10 01:18:41 UTC
Deleting a directory pops up a progress dialog. This dialog
contains an indication of the number of files being deleted
(like "12/36"). The total number of files does not include
hidden files. Thus the displayed number is wrong (worst case:
"Deleting: 20/0"). Backup files may also be affected by this
bug (not verified).

* REPRODUCIBLE: Always

* STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Select a directory containing visible as well as hidden files
2. Select "Delete..." from its context menu (you may have to
   enable the trashcan bypass in the preferences to see it).
3. Confirm the deletion.

* ACTUAL RESULTS:

 The progress dialog that is displayed ignores the hidden files in
its file count. Therefore, in a directory with only hidden files,
the file count will be displayed as 0, even if all the files are
being deleted.

* EXPECTED RESULTS:

  Display the correct number of files being deleted.

Taking bugs previously assigned to Pavel, assigning them to myself. Will parse
them out at my leisure , but many are GnomeVFS bugs we should look at for 2.0

Changing to "old" target milestone for all bugs laying around with no milestone set.

It seems that I can reproduce this bug in Nautilus 2.14.1 (see comment #4). May somebody re-open this bug?

I seen this bug last week on a GNOME v2.22 (so with gvfs), I was copying or deleting (I can't recall right now sorry) 1770 files and Nautilus counted around 3500.
Comment 11 Baptiste Mille-Mathias 2008-07-16 20:54:18 UTC
...
I would need someone to confirm before setting the version to 2.22 ...
Comment 12 Marcus Carlson 2010-07-30 23:08:18 UTC
Anyone still have a problem with this? It might be that nautilus also count the folders to be deleted / copied - could that make sense? (It might also ignore hidden and backup files)
Comment 13 André Klapper 2021-06-18 15:13:26 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
