GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 48041
cannot build Nautilus with gettext 0.10.36 because of non-ascii msgid's
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
The new gettext 0.10.36 complains when compiling nautilus. az.po:2127: invalid multibyte sequence az.po:2133: invalid multibyte sequence az.po:2159: invalid multibyte sequence az.po:2165: invalid multibyte sequence az.po:2200: invalid multibyte sequence az.po:2206: invalid multibyte sequence az.po:9993: invalid multibyte sequence found 7 fatal errors It is because src/nautilus-window-menus.c and components/services/install/command-line/eazel-alt-install-corba.c has non-ascii msgid's which is incompatible with the charset for the po files. Please remove those non-ascii msgid. ------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2001-04-12 16:01:34 ---- Fixed in nautilus HEAD and trilobite HEAD (the new home of eazel-alt-install-corba.c). ------- Additional Comments From cwryu@debian.org 2001-04-12 17:43:12 ---- What about nautilus-1 branch? Won't there be any release in the branch? ------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2001-04-12 19:42:55 ---- 1.0.2, which is 99% done, is most likely the last release from the nautilus-1 branch. ------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2001-04-13 13:33:17 ---- cwryu@debian.org, is this fixed to your satisfaction in HEAD? If so, might you possibly care to mark this bug as 'Verified'? (Our Debian tester was laid off.) ------- Additional Comments From cwryu@debian.org 2001-04-15 11:52:04 ---- Now it's OK. Thanks. ------- Additional Comments From cwryu@debian.org 2001-04-15 12:14:44 ---- Wait, wait... In src/nautilus-window-menus.c, + if (strcmp (copyright, "Copyright (C) 1999-2001 Eazel, Inc.") == 0) { + /* The copyright character here is correct for + * Latin-1 encoding, but not for UTF-8, so we + * have to change it when we move to GTK 2.0. + */ + copyright = "Copyright \xA9 1999-2001 Eazel, Inc."; + } No.. You cannot assume that the locale allows the latin-1 copyright symbol even when translation is same with the msgid. In Korean, the translation is still the same with the msgid. (Copyright statement is an international standard. It should not be translated.) If you really want the copyright symbol, why not draw the font just with iso8859-1 font? ------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2001-04-16 16:19:59 ---- OK. ------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2001-04-27 11:05:47 ---- cwryu@debian.org, has Darin now fixed this to your satisfaction? ;] If so, yada yada blah please mark Verified yada blah yada. Thanks! ------- Additional Comments From cwryu@debian.org 2001-04-28 02:41:20 ---- Yep. BTW, what does `yada' mean? ------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2001-04-30 11:39:16 ---- Thanks! ("yada" like "substitute for meaningful words") ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-09-09 21:18 -------
