GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 476942
Scaling support
Last modified: 2009-02-26 12:52:31 UTC
Main reason what keeps me using VNC client on Linux boxes is lack of scaling in clients. Yes, I have to connect to stations with 1600x1200 and they simply don't fit in my home monitor.
i'd love to see scaling too, as my laptop only has a 1024x768 screen. imho scaling is the most important feature missing atm.
As a GNOME user I would really love to see this implemented. For me, scaling is the sole deciding factor in choosing a VNC client and is the reason I stick with Krdc.
Yes, Vinagre will support this. gtk-vnc already supports this. I just didn't put it in vinagre yet because of GNOME's freezes. I'll do that for next cycle, just after GNOME 2.22 is released.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
This is implemented in "unstable" branch, because it needs the development version of gtk-vnc. In a near future, I'll merge this branch with trunk.

I tried the scaling support in 2.23.2, but it only seems to scale up, not down. Is this a bug or a limitation of the scaling support?
Hi, Sven. This is currently a limitation. Please, file a new bug against vinagre, component gtk-vnc about that. Thanks.
John, just a question here - downscaling will be available for 2.24? Or it is very tricky to do? Already thanks for answer, waiting for new bug to subscribe ;)
The downscaling request is filed as bug 533282.
