GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 471827
Adding client to server's list failed. Application very slow and unresponsive.
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:47:35 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. All you have to do is to try to start the application. 2. Cursor spends 2 minutes switching between busy and normal states. 3. This dialog appears: An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for gnucash. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly. -- with the following message listed 5 times in the details window -- Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0 4. Application doesn't seem to want to do anything. Stack trace: Did not find a means of producing this information in Vista, but will be glad to try to get the information if you can give me instructions. The data I found for generating this data applied to Linux distros. Other information: This exact same behavior occurs on two very different Vista Business systems, one freshly installed, and the other installation about 9 months old. Both up-to-date on all security and compatibility patches, including the special compatibility and performance patches released in July.
I meant to add the fact that this happens whether the application is installed from within a standard user account (using Run As Administrator in the installer) or from within a full admin account. Cannot save any preferences. If I try to save a file in any location but the default location, I get the same dialog box mentioned above. There is some response available from some menu options, but I can't actually do any work with the application.
Does <http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#GConf.2FORBit_COMM_FAILURE> help workaround the problem?
Using ORBit2-2.13.3 seems to have done it. I haven't had a chance to work with GnuCash under Vista yet, but it now looks and acts pretty much the same as it does under Ubuntu. Many thanks, Josh. I'm sorry to say that my saved search for information actually contains that reference, but I missed it while looking down through the list. I could have saved you (and myself) a little trouble if I had been brighter. Since you're a dev, let me take the opportunity to thank you guys for an outstanding package. When this is up and running well in Windows (and maybe with this fix it will be) the folks who suffer the slings and arrows of Quicken and Money are going to receive balm for their wounds. And I'll be one of the folks spreading the word.
