What were you doing when the application crashed?
I just launched Deskbar after deleting the .gnome2/deskbar-applet folder. The reason for deleting the whole folder was that previously my system suffered from the broken history (pickle-file) bug and after deletion of the pickle file I succeeded in at least launching the deskbar. However, as soon as I entered text for testing, the applet crashed and took my d-bus with it. Suspecting more old-version problems, I killed the folder... alas to no avail.

I'll actually be glad to help or give more information...
