GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 468598
Every 'scanning' devices - after a resize or move operation - segfaults
Last modified: 2008-08-13 22:36:24 UTC
Please describe the problem: Do a resize or move. When finished, gparted rescans all devices. When it is doing this, it suddenly segfaults. I have made an strace of this and will attach it. I have carefully looked through existing bugs and not found this one. ( I also experienced one segfault in the middle of a resize/move operation and lost nearly all data, but I see a) it is already reported in bugzilla b) I don't have additional information regarding this). Steps to reproduce: 1. Do any resize / move. Wait for 'scanning all devices' 2. Every time gparted segfaults. 3. Actual results: Disappears from view and is no longer running. Expected results: Show the devices in the same manner that gparted does when the programme starts, only now with the new figures after the resize / move operation. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Running Mandriva Cooker 2008.0, with these packages: gparted-0.3.3-3mdv2008.0.i586.rpm libparted1.8_7-1.8.7-2mdv2008.0.i586.rpm parted-1.8.7-2mdv2008.0.i586.rpm
Created attachment 94000 [details] bzipped output of strace -o -f gparted incl. segfault
Thank you for the detailed bug report. This bug is a duplicate of bug #470387. The problem was fixed in GParted version 0.3.5.
Curtis: Please mark bugs correctly as duplicate instead of just closing them as fixed. Thanks.

Hello Andre. Thanks for the tip about marking the bugs as duplicate. I have done so for many other bugs. With this one and a few others, it was very early on and I was still learning about maintaining GParted. In fact I am still learning so help is always appreciated. :-) Regards, Curtis Gedak
