Description Sebastien Bacher 2007-08-17 15:06:02 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/125072

"...
when rhythmbox is full screen (called Party mode, from the menu: 'View->Party Mode F11' ), it is always on the visible workspace: when i switch to a different workspace (using ctrl-alt-left for instance), rbox just moves with me.
This is the same behaviour windows have if you set them to be 'Always on Visible Workspace' from the menu (other choices would be 'Always on top' and 'Only on this workspace'.

To compare, Epiphany for example does full screen (also F11) more like i would expect."

I can confirm the bug.

Using:
rhythmbox 0.11.1-1+b1
compiz 0.2.2-1
xserver-xorg 1:7.2-5
Comment 2 Marc-Andre Lureau 2007-09-09 20:08:37 UTC
Reading the code, it had nothing to do with compiz.

please remove the call to gtk_window_stick ()!

I'm not sure I get your point. The menu item is called "Party mode" and not "Full screen" precisely because it's behaviour is different on purpose.
Comment 4 Bastien Nocera 2007-11-07 00:24:00 UTC
That's not a bug. Party mode is for parties, when you don't want people to muck with other programs on your computer.

I do think this is a bug.

Linux relies heavily on the use of workspaces. It was the main reason to switch from Windows for me.

The point is, in party mode, you don't want to muck with other programs *on the current workspace* and not making your whole computer unusable.

When people are over at my place, they ask me if they can look something up real quick on the net (e.g. when the last train leaves).
I thought, well that's not a problem, I switched over to a different desktop but to my surprise there was Rythmbox too.

The reason behind this escapes me. Why does Rythmbox have to be on every workspace, if YOU think I don't want to bother with other programs (including the window manager that allows me to switch to a different workspace)?

Other music library players like Listen do not behave in such a way.
