GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 464994
Crash upon startup in gconfd-2.exe: libiconv_set_relocation_prefix not found in libiconf.dll
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:45:19 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. This error occurs every time I start gnucash. 2. I am running Windows Vista Home. 3. Start -> All Programs -> Gnucash -> nucash Stack trace: I'm sorry, but I encountered this problem only on Windows and your wiki page says it's impossible to obtain stack traces there. All I get is the following: 1. This error occurs everytime I start it. 2. I am running Windows Vista Home. 3. May you please test the following: * get http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessExplorer.zip, unpack and start the Process Explorer * Run gnucash, do not click away error messages * There should be two gconfd-2.exe processes, the child one with a lot of DLLs loaded. Please take your mouse and hover it over iconv.dll to see from what location it was loaded and tell us. I suppose you did not manually extract gconf zip files into your gnucash folder, right? :-)

Sorry for the delay in response as I have been away. There are two processes running, one gnucash-bin.exe and one gconfd-2.exe both from the gnucash directories. The gconf files were inserted by the installation of gnucash. NB: The gnucash-bin.exe is in the gnucash\bin directory and the running gconfd-2.exe is in the gnucash\libexec directory. I have found a copyof gconfd-2.exe in the gnucash\bin directory as well. PS: If I set both the gnucash-bin and gconfd-2 files from the running directory to be run in compatability mode (WINDOWS XP (SP2)) then is starts. I don't know if this is a good long term solution. There obviously seems to be a conflict with vista somewhere.
I am also getting this error. I am running WinXP SP2. Upon start-up a myriad of error boxes, one after another pop-up. Title bar: gconfd-2.exe - Entry Point Not Found Error: The procedure entry point libiconv_set_relocation_prefix could not be located in the dynamic link library iconv.dll. I would say this box pops up maybe 50 times, then the main screen shows, but I cant do anything without the error doing this again.
I am getting this error also when trying to start up, in the same manner the people above mentioned with 50 consecutive error dialogs, a DOS window that tries to open in the background, and no GnuCash startup screen at all. I have never run GNUcash before, and am sorely disappointed. I got the program tonight from: http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/gnucash/gnucash-2.2.1-setup.exe The error is: "gconfd-2.exe - Application Error. The instruction at "0x77fcc453" referenced memory at "0x6163756e". The memory could not be written." I will uninstall and try one of the older releases, and if this doesn't work, it's back to Quicken for me.
Update -- I uninstalled and went to 2.2.0. This time instead of installing to c:\gnucash I installed to the default location (Program Files) and it came up with no problem. I have no idea whether it was the version or the install directory causing the problem.
What about GnuCash 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 (will appear in the following days).
