Description David campbell 2007-08-03 07:11:22 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Since Fedora 7's default viewer for tif files is eye of gnome, which can't view multi-page tif files, I started to believe that there was no tool for reading multi-page tif files, which is no good for my business because I have hundreds of them.
The fact that the interface lead me to that conclusion is another matter, but I somehow later noticed that the default viewer for pdf files - evince - could open multi-page tif files and set out to change the default viewer for tif files to evince.

I found that pulling down a menu on the tif files and choosing "Open with Other Application" made it say in the window:
Open ______ and other files of type "___" with:

This wording indicated to me that having made the selection to use "Document Viewer", that my selection would persist, because it said 'and other files of type "___":'

But doing so does not persist. This seems to go against the wording that is there, and seems unintuitive.

Steps to reproduce:
(1) on a tif file pull down Open With/Open with other application
(2) click Document Viewer and observe wording that says "and other files of type ___"
(3) click Open and it opens in document viewer
(4) close the document viewer
(5) double-click the same file and it opens with eye of gnome

Actual results:
Double-clicking the file afterwards makes it open with eye of gnome, which is not document viewer which I selected.

Expected results:
Given the wording that I saw, I would expect it to remember the viewer decision for files of type tif.

Does this happen every time?
yes
