What were you doing when the application crashed?
I just select edit -> preferences menu item and then it crashes.
It reproduces (I can never manage to open preferences)

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

This is caused by a python gettext bug that only the Japanese translation triggers.  Running Rhythmbox in another locale will avoid the crash.
