Please describe the problem:
The calendar applet in the panel starts the day on a Sunday, ignoring my
preference in Evolution (where it seems to get its data from) for a week
starting on a Monday.

I think this is a bug in your locale (which define on which day the week starts)

Mine starts at Monday (I would like to have it start at Sunday).
And yes, it's not using Evolution's preference.

This is definitely a bug in your locale, or if you really want something that is not right according to your locale, that's a GTK+ bug.

Search for "week" in the clock bugs to find all the duplicates about this...
