Description Paolo Benvenuto 2007-07-13 11:57:25 UTC
Please describe the problem:
In Evolution you haven't the possibility to delete completely a message or a group of messages.

The only options you have are:
- Throw a message to the waste basket
- Delete all messages from the waste basket

I consider that two thing are needed in evolution:

1. The possibility to delete a messagge without sending it to the wastebasket

2. The possibility to delete messages from the wastebasket

BTW what I'm proposing is implemented in nautilus, where you can delete a file or send it to the wastebasket, and where you can enter the wastebasket as it were a carpet e delete selected messages in it.

Steps to reproduce:

Actual results:

Does this happen every time?

you cannot delete a message completely because of performance issues, and this will not be changed.

to delete a message in the trash forever, choose "empty trash" or expunge the folder.

any more questions? :-)

Is there a mailing list thread about that?

But is there a way to delete selected messages from the trash folder?

well, to be fair... there's no reason the feature /couldn't/ be added... so long as people didn't expect it to be instantanious to 'delete' 1 message at a time, especially if they use a format such as mbox (which is the default).

I suppose the question of whether it /should/ be added or not falls on the UI designers.

To answer your question, no, there's no way to purge selected messages from the Trash folder either.

So this bug is not NEEDINFO. A design decision is needed and either this bug will be FIXED or closed as WONTFIX.

I personally would appreciate a feature to instantly delete an email for convenience, but someone should start the discussion on e-h.
