Description samuella 2007-07-10 21:41:07 UTC
Currently only the entire playlist can be repeated. Single songs cannot be repeated.

You can right-click on the song you wish to play in repeat and select "Add to playlist" and make a new playlist, then it will repeat if you select that.

Is there any similar programs to rhythmbox in which this is possible and where it makes sense?

I mean, how often are you interested in hearing the same song over and over while not wanting to use 4 secs on making a new playlist?

Hello,

A little example:

I have bought a book with 4 cds to learn a new language. There are 60 tracks, each one corresponding to a lesson. This is how I learn a new lesson:

1. I listen to the track continuously during the whole lesson
2. I read the text in the new language
3. I read the translation
4. I read the comments

Of course 2+3+4 take much longer than the track for the lesson, so I have to repeat the track many times.

How I have to do it with Rhythmbox:

1. select the track from the playlist
2. add it to a new playlist
3. play this new playlist
4. remove the track from the new playlist at the end of the lesson

And I must do that every time!

Other applications like Banshee have the option to repeat one track only. My first CD player 15 years ago already had this option...

I hate to dig up old stuff, but having this as an option within the system to repeat one song only would be brilliant. As this is the default-installed music manager in Ubuntu starting with 12.04, it would be wonderful to see this option (which is already implemented in other music managers in the repositories) incorporated into Rhythmbox.

Hi, all.

Does Rhythmbox developer think "repeat one song" shouldn't be a built-in feature?

I haven't time to collect so many screen shots at this point. But I believe many, if not all, other music players on Linux / Mac OS X / Windows has "repeat one song" as a built-in feature.

For Ubuntu 12.04 users, please try the following plug-in:
https://launchpad.net/repeat-one-song

Even if Rhythmbox upstream eventually add this feature, Ubuntu repository has very little chance to upgrade accordingly.

Actually this feature already exists: just drag/add the song to the play queue, which is a special auto-emptying playlist. It can also be shown in the sidebar with ctrl+K. No point in adding UI complexity for this :)
