If you use gnome-screenshot to take a screenshot and save it in a directory, then say 3 months go by and that directory for whatever reason no longer exists, the next time you use gnome-screenshot, just after hitting the PrtScrn key, you get an error dialog about not being able to open some directory that you totally forgot about because that was like 3 months ago.

Suggestion is to instead default to some other known directory, say $HOME.
