Description Adolfo González Blázquez 2007-06-27 11:27:23 UTC
Please describe the problem:
In RB 0.11.1 (and trunk) the playback of mp3s is totally distorted, like if the volume were too high.

This is Ubuntu Feisty. Related gstreamer packages:

Does that help if you set rhythmbox volume to less than 100% (I mean rhythmbox volume, ie the one which you can set from the right of rhythmbox toolbar)
Comment 2 Adolfo González Blázquez 2007-06-27 12:17:28 UTC
nope, it doesn't help
Comment 3 Peter Gordon 2007-06-28 03:57:34 UTC
I found similar distortion on Fedora (Rythmbox 0.11, GStreamer 0.10.12). Enabling the crossfading backend appears to fix it for me. Does this help you?
Comment 4 a.catalucci 2007-07-02 10:40:22 UTC
problem occurs on ubuntu 7.04 too, playing oggs (gstreamer 0.10.12)
Comment 5 Gilles Dartiguelongue 2007-07-03 11:48:48 UTC
can you test with flac files ?.

I've started hearing "scratches" in ogg and mp3 files since I updated alsa stuff here but I'm not sure it is related. Using rhythmbox-0.11.1. Will try the crossfading backend ASAP.
Comment 6 Alessio Rocchi 2007-07-04 19:15:10 UTC
I had the same problem with my Rhytmbox..
Try lowering the Rhythmbox volume from its own handle in the main window, it worked for me :)
Comment 7 Andrea Cimitan 2007-07-05 02:17:11 UTC
same problem with mp3
Comment 8 Gilles Dartiguelongue 2007-07-05 06:36:40 UTC
I tried lowering rhythmbox's volume. I had to bring it down to ~50% to make the distortion disappear on my test mp3. That's really weird, I thought software volume couldn't do such things...

I have same problem, ubuntu feisty with rhythmbox 0.11.1 but lowering rhythmbox's volume a little below maximum fixed it.
Comment 10 Jonathan Matthew 2007-07-24 11:31:17 UTC
This seems to be the same problem reported in bug 436192.

Confirming this. Rhythmbox 0.11.2. Listen media player has the same issue so maybe it's a gstreamer problem.
Comment 12 c.graz 2007-10-13 23:02:23 UTC
Rhythmbox 0.11.2, Gutsy beta, confirmed. Rhythmbox makes a very annoying noise with songs with important bass. The same song with Listen is clean, so the file has non problem. It happens with .ogg and also .mp3s. Hope a fix, for now i am forced to use another player.
Comment 13 Jonathan Matthew 2007-10-13 23:06:14 UTC
This is actually a bug in ALSA. As far as I know, gutsy will ship with a fixed libasound2 package.
