GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 451515
Split transaction usability
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:40:50 UTC
This is a continuation of the thread started in # 451215. Here's an example of a typical split transaction. I pay my credit card once a month - the amount taken from my account is £1,200 which I want to analyse out into food, clothing, books etc. I enter a payment of 1,200 into the register of my current account and then I want to analyse out £500 for food, £200 for clothes, £500 for a new TV. This is not displayed intuitively by GnuCash; £1,200 is listed in the column showing "Tot Withdrawl", but the other side to the entry (the splits) are in a column titled "Tot Deposit". This is because it is using the standard register columns for the split function. This I believe is confusing and counter intuitive and I reason that if it confuses an accountant like me you will have no chance with a more casual user. Other information:
As Josh already said in bug#451215: > "Deposit" and "Withdrawl" are terms used in Asset/Bank account registers; in my > Credit Card (Liability) register, the columns are "Payment" and "Charge", which > make sense ... which register (for which account) are you in? Additionally could you please add a screenshot of the place where you think this is "not displayed intuitively" ("Create a new attachment" below) and explain how you expect it to be displayed instead?
Created attachment 90787 [details] Screenshot of bank account split transaction
