Error starting a command in a separate terminal
Last modified: 2008-02-18 19:36:58 UTC
Please describe the problem: An attempt to start any command (including empty command) by Shift-Enter starts gnome-terminal which shows "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal" error. Steps to reproduce: 1. Using Ubuntu 7.04 2. Press Shift-Enter in the main window Actual results: See above Expected results: A command being executed in a separate terminal Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
The problem disappears when replacing gnome-terminal with xterm in Settings -> Options -> Programs -> Terminal or with "xterm -e gnome-terminal -e %s"
In openSuse 11.0 alpha 0, gnome-commander 1.2.4, nothing happens at all when pressing SHIFT+ENTER, but when executing "open with" from the context ( right click ) menu and checking "needs terminal" behavior is as described above. To reproduce: right click an item, choose open with other..,type "a" in Application and check "needs terminal" If gnome-terminal is configured, it opens and states: There was an error creating the child process for this terminal and no prompt appears, the terminalis not usable. If xterm is configured, it opens an states: bash: a: command not found -------------------------------------------------------------- The program has now finished, press Enter to close this window
The same sytuation in openSuse 10.3 + Gnome
