Description gary alpert 2007-06-12 22:44:48 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When trying to invoke GIMP I receive the following:
PANGO-ERROR **; file shape.c: line 75 (pango_shape); assertion failed: (glyphs->num_glyphs > 0)aborting...

Steps to reproduce:
1. Not sure, run the Kernel Code first then download the auto windows version of Gimp?
2.
3. Downloaded via: Automated installer (provided by Jernej Simoncic) - choose this if you just want to install GIMP. Note that the user manual is an extra package; make sure that you get it as well. And have a look at the FAQ if you run into any problems.

Actual results:
Have to cancel and xx out, cannot get the application to run, open files, etc.

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?

Other information:
Thanks for your assistance.

Um, we'd need a full stacktrace in order to find out what actually went wrong here, as that single assertion isn't very useful. As I'm guessing you're on a Windows machine, which means no bug-buddy and you probably haven't got gdb installed, this is a bit difficult. If you know what you're doing with gdb, then you can get a Windows copy of it from http://www.mingw.org/download.shtml. http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces also has some information, but it's Linux and FreeBSD specific.

For the moment, I'm closing this bug as INCOMPLETE, please feel free to re-open if you're able to get us a stacktrace.

Given that there are already a dozen duplicates about the same error in Pango shapes.c, I think that it is more appropriate to close this bug as a duplicate of bug #304702. This issue is fixed in Pango 1.12.0.

This problem and some solutions are also mentioned in the FAQ: http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/faq.html
