Description eli 2001-09-10 00:44:59 UTC
If you do "New Folder" in a directory with zero items in List View, the
highlighted text of the new folder's title will be offset to the right.

(Looks like a known bug, but I can't find a report.)

* REPRODUCIBLE: Always

* STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Open a Nautilus window, in Icon View.
2. Create a new folder (or open a folder containing 0 items)

* ACTUAL RESULTS:

 The new folder's editable title is offset to the right. Will attach screenshot.

You can create other manifestations that may be this same bug in Manual view
mode.

For example, if you drag all of your icons downwards so that they don't occupy
space that would contain your window's first row of icons, and then create a new
folder, there will be both a huge gap between where the folder icon appears, and
the title. (Will also attach screen shot, hard to explain)

Another way to see this bug in more detail is to open an empty folder, and do a
dozen consecutive "New Folder" operations. You'll see the text label appear both
on the left and on the right. (this is using yesterday afternoon's build via
RPMs.)

I'm graciously donating this bug to Gene, originator of the "put the renaming
field in the right place" code.

------- Additional Comments From bud@eazel.com 2000-10-30 11:16:50 ----

The second screen shot makes things pretty hard to use.

------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2000-10-31 14:53:39 ----

I've spotted a corner case, and will fork it into a separate bug for Gene.

------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2000-10-31 15:17:20 ----

I'm still seeing variants of both behaviors, but believe they have separate
causes. Forking:

* 4332: "Right-click after New Folder creation -> Icon separates from text
label"

------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2000-10-31 15:48:30 ----

* 4334, "Edited file name separated from its icon upon view change"

------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2000-10-31 15:58:25 ----

Verified fixed in current build; none of the steps to reproduce provided in this
bug lead to Nautilus problems.

Ironically, I've discovered corner cases that comprise each of the two problems
in this bug report (but through completely different means). These have been
forked into new bugs at gzr's request.

Thanks, Gene!

------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2000-12-06 16:07:29 ----

This bug was fixed fine, but nearly-identical behavior with identical steps to
reproduce of the original bug report has recurred.

Per chat with Gene I'm re-opening this bug for his convenience, rather than
spending 10 minutes to file a new one. (Gene, if you change your mind and decide
you want a new bug, will do.)

------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2000-12-29 17:38:56 ----

The reappearance of this problem is almost certainly related to the reappearance of
bug 42068.

------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2001-01-02 09:35:36 ----

Reassigning to Mike. Mike, if you happen to fix bug 42068 along the way, all
the better.  : )

------- Additional Comments From engber@eazel.com 2001-01-05 17:37:31 ----

This bug was due to nautilus-icon-text-item making misusing the canvas
coordinate system.

------- Additional Comments From brett@eazel.com 2001-01-17 12:44:32 ----

Can't reproduce - verified.
