Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Some of my problems seem to have been caused by the fast-user-switch applet. After logging in, it was consuming 100% CPU for ten seconds or more, and the panel wouldn't respond (apparently) until it was done. I removed the fus applet, and so far, no known gnome problems or orphan processes (one one which was bonobo-activation server, not ..application-server)
