Description Sebastien Bacher 2007-05-22 10:24:44 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/115952

"Binary package hint: gdm

After upgrading to Gutsy, no users are showing in the user's list on GDM's theme. I have to manually type both the username and password to enter gnome, while on Feisty I could click my picture on GDM and only provide the password.
..."

That happens with the "Happy GNOME with Browser" theme

I also encountered this bug directly after an update to gdm-2.19.1-1.

Note that starting with GDM 2.19, the Browser key must be true for the face browser to work. Previously GDM allowed the face browser to be on if the theme specified the face browser and the key was false. This is not longer true, so perhaps the default configuration in Ubuntu needs some tweaking?

This might be due to a change in the default configuration. Note that the configutation should have the following entries set:

Browser=true
IncludeAll=true

If IncludeAll=false, then you can specify specific users with the Include key.

Perhaps the problem is the the default Ubuntu configuration isn't correct?
Comment 3 Brian Cameron 2007-06-27 02:26:31 UTC
I believe this bug is caused because now the browser=true key must be set for face browser to work. Previously you only needed to use a theme that supported a face browser. Now that GDM is smart enough to hide the face browser if browser=false, it is better if GDM honors this key.

So I'm closing this bug. The distro should update their configuration to specify the browser should be on.

If there really is a GDM bug here, then please reopen.
Comment 4 Sebastien Bacher 2007-06-27 09:14:52 UTC
Right, works correctly with the current version
Comment 5 Sebastien Bacher 2007-08-21 17:53:19 UTC
is there any reason to not set Browser=true in the default configuration?
Comment 6 Brian Cameron 2007-08-21 18:13:24 UTC
Please add your thoughts about whether we should set Browser=true to the discussion on bug #425552.
