GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 43864
Invoke Help System, click on Name link causes Naut app. to die
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
I went into the Help system in the sidebar, clicked on System->Configuration->Config Files-> if you then click on any of the man pages available, you get the man page up correctly, but if you then scroll to the end of the man page, you see a link called 'Name' ??? If you hit this, the Naut app. dies with the following error message to standard out: [root@nscp1 desktop]# run-nautilus Trying dir /usr/share/oaf Nautilus-Tree-WARNING **: ANOMALY: file:///root Nautilus-Tree-WARNING **: ANOMALY: file:///root eazel-proxy launching into the background... kdc.conf.5/: No such file or directory No manual entry for kdc.conf.5/ ** ERROR **: file nautilus-directory.c: line 516 (add_to_hash_table): assertion failed: (g_hash_table_lookup (directory->details ->file_hash, file->details->name) == NULL) aborting... i'm running the RPM's taken from the eazel website yesterday so i'm assuming they are pretty much the latest.....also i'm running on RedHat 6.2.... ------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2000-10-18 09:54:08 ---- The assertion indicates a bug inside NautilusFile/Directory code that I am probably the best one to fix. But I don't know for sure that I can reproduce this. Ali, let me know how I can help you. ------- Additional Comments From mathieu@gnome.org 2000-10-20 16:08:43 ---- this might have been due to the bug I made pavel fix in gnome-vfs... gnome-vfs was generating bad-broken uris with some memory trashing... If you can get the latest gnome-vfs and try to reproduce this ? ------- Additional Comments From jfleck@inkstain.net 2000-10-21 14:10:46 ---- Don't know if this is the same bug or a separate one, but none of those links at the bottom of man pages work for me. They do not crash Nautilus, and I get no error messages on the console, but all I get is a blank page. Example: man:intro.7 click on "DESCRIPTION" link at the bottom man:///#lbAC/gnome-man2html2 / in the "goto" line at the top of Nautilus and a blank mozilla window ------- Additional Comments From aliabdin@aucegypt.edu 2000-10-22 02:47:10 ---- Darin: there appears to be a problem with symlinks in Nautilus. First of all, mozilla doesn't work with them (which you shouldn't concern yourself with), but if I click multiple times on a symlink Nautilus crashes. I believe this is exactly the problem of the original bug report. I have not taken a look at nautilus-directory.c to examine why it crashes. Hope this helps you track it down. ------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2000-10-23 12:20:49 ---- When I try the steps originally listed here, I get the same results as jfleck. It is possible that the crashing part of this bug has been fixed, as mathieu suggests. What remains seems to be that named anchors don't work. If that is the only remaining issue, then this is a duplicate of bug 42787. But I'm not marking this as a duplicate yet because Ali also brought up some problem with symlinks, and I can't tell how that fits in with the rest of this discussion. ------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2000-10-24 16:26:15 ---- OK, it's time to put this poor bug to rest. The first problem it mentions (the crash), was almost certainly a case of the crashing bug in gnome-vfs-uri-new that pavel fixed recently. Now the main (only?) problem that it mentions is a specific case of anchor tags (links within the same page, maybe my terminology is wrong) not working, which is bug 42787. It's not clear whether there's a separate issue involving symlinks. If there is, we need a new bug report for it, because following this long complicated one has become impossible. Marking this a duplicate of 42787 and saying goodbye to it. RIP. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 42787 *** ------- Additional Comments From jfleck@inkstain.net 2000-12-07 18:51:37 ---- Verifying based on the original bug filed (Dec. 3, 2000 build). ------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2001-01-13 14:56:49 ---- [Re-confirmed that this no longer is reproducible as part of verifying 2787.] ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-09-09 20:41 -------
