Description miki 2007-05-15 06:22:07 UTC
I successfully installed GnuCash on windows XP and opened the data that was created using GnuCash 2.0 on Ubuntu.

The software worked as expected, and I was able to insert my transactions and save it more then once.

Now when I try to open GnuCash it just crash after showing the tip. I can open and work on old saves or new data.

How can you open and work on other files if GnuCash crashes on startup? I am confused.

In case you mean that you do not mind working on old saves or new data, here is a list of things to try:

* edit bin\gnucash and replace "start gnucash-bin" by "start gnucash-bin --nofile"
* kill gconfd-2.exe, remove ~\Local Settings\Temp\gconfd-$user\lock\ior
* kill gconfd-2.exe, make a backup of ~\.gconf, remove ~/.gconf and ~/.gconfd; if that helps, please attach a zip file containing ~/.gconf (no private data in there)
* make a backup of ~/.gnucash, remove ~/.gnucash; if that helps, please attach a zip file containing ~/.gnucash (should be no private data in there as well)
* check ~\Local Settings\Temp for gnucash.trace files, see whether one of the newer ones contains some valuable information

When i start GnuCash it first show the tip ( which i close ).
Then it says that the data file is locked ( obviously because it crashed in the last session )

If I choose "open anyway" it crashes.
If I choose "Create new file" then the wizard pop up and I can choose to open older files ( from file -> open )

I see. May you please attach the file in ~\.gnucash\books corresponding to your data file? Maybe it contains enough information to reproduce the crash.

I seem to have the same problem, message that file is locked and then if I continue anyway it crashes. I just uploaded the file from .gnu/books. Let me know if I can provide any other info that may help.
Comment 8 Andreas Köhler 2007-05-27 23:34:16 UTC
I am sorry for the delay :-(

I cannot see anything special in Mikis book file (it is shorter than the other, which is good). It would be really helpful if you could provide a "minimal data file", i.e. a cut-down version of your file which still crashes GnuCash. You could make a backup, deactivate compression in the preferences and start removing stuff until it can be loaded successfully, then revert the latest change and retry.

It still crashes.

I'm willing to give the file to one of the developer but I don't want to store it online.
So I suggest ill send it using the email to one of the developer and later on he will delete it.

What do you say Andreas ?
Comment 11 Andreas Köhler 2007-07-04 15:03:31 UTC
Feel free to send it to me in private mail, I will see what I can do then.
Comment 12 Andreas Köhler 2007-07-04 15:51:03 UTC
Thanks for doing so.
This bug is a duplicate of bug 443941 which has been fixed in GnuCash 2.1.5.

For a workaround, see bug 443941 comment 6. As you compressed your data file, you will need use a gzip-capable program (like 7zip) first to uncompress it.

Meanwhile I am deleting your file here.
