GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 437876
show radio streams
Last modified: 2007-05-13 11:13:43 UTC
when i select 'radio' from the menu list, rhythmbox shows just plain nothing! it would be much better if it had a search engine to fine shoutcast or icecast streams, like bmpx has or if it at least would show the top 20 from shoutcast, but i have to add every url manually which is a total pita. this is a major issue considering rhythmbox is such a pretty known application.
See eg http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-76229.html for an (old) answer from doctau about a similar request (there are probably other bugs related to that): Question: "Also how about a way to search radio stations from rhythmbox itsself, at the moment I use Streamtuner (http://gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=124) to search and then load the streams in Rhythmbox. I'm sure the RB devs could include this functionality, hopefully making it a bit more usable than streamcast is at the moment as well." doctau's answer: This has been suggested before. The biggest problem is that the Shoutcast terms of use explitily forbit programs from doing this - Streamtuner is ignoring those. I'm not sure about the live365 terms-of-use, and whether we can include a offline browser or not.
Bug 127794 has a patch that imports the icecast stream directory; bug 436005 asks for a shoutcast browser; on first run, the contents of the iradio-initial.pls file should be added to the radio source (http://svn.gnome.org/svn/rhythmbox/trunk/plugins/iradio/iradio-initial.pls). This was broken in svn trunk for a while recently, but it does work at the moment. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 127794 ***
