Description Alessio Gaeta 2007-05-11 15:05:04 UTC
It would be nice a folder monitor function in F-Spot.
Activating the feature on the Photos folder, F-Spot should scan it searching for:
- new photos to import from catalogue
- no longer existing photos to delete from catalogue
- modified photos (in filename) to update

The user should be able to:
- launch a scan manually
- activate/deactivate monitoring
- activate/deactivate automatic deleting from catalogue
- activate/deactivate an explicit confirmation of changes
- choose if being notified about changes
- select a reparse strategy (on start, periodic, -maybe- on idle...)

Identifying modified photos is perhaps problematic, I know. But a workaround could be to add in metadata an unique identifier (as the db key of photo itself in the catalogue). This solution would prevent also reimporting photos already in catalogue (possible scenario: the user manually adds photos in the Photos folders with a file manager and then manually rescan the library). Removing a photo from catalogue should of course remove the unique identifier tag from file.
Giving to user the ability to manually add photos in the library and then rescan it only for new entries, would also speedup the import of multiple folders.

Similar features are often implemented in music listening programs (as Gnome Listen, for example).

Thanks for you great work!
