GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 436023
Failed keyboard bindings for Windows key
Last modified: 2007-11-29 03:44:40 UTC
Please describe the problem: Metacity appears not to support using the Windows key as a modifier and a stand-alone shortcut key. Other window managers (IceWM) and operating systems (Windows 95+) support the proper behavior. In short, Gnome/Metacity should support a single keypress of the Windows key as a shortcut (e.g., to open the Gnome "Start" menu) as well as as a modifier (e.g., Win+Right to switch to the next desktop, Win+T to open Gnome Terminal). Steps to reproduce: 1. Select Desktop->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts 2. Attempt to use the Windows key as a stand-alone shortcut 3. Attempt to use the Windows key as a shortcut modifier Actual results: Depending on how you've configured your system, either step 2 or step 3 will fail. Expected results: Both steps 2 and 3 would succeed; i.e., the Windows key could be used as a stand-alone shortcut as well as as a shortcut modifier. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: This is grating problem, yet one that would seem relatively simple to resolve.
