GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 434672
crash in Evolution: Plantage en voulant fair...
Last modified: 2007-05-01 15:46:46 UTC
What were you doing when the application crashed? Plantage en voulant faire suivre un mail contenant 4 photos (jpeg) attachées de 530 Mo. Un clique sur faire suivre fait apparaître le nouveau mail avec l'ancien en attachement et plante tout de suite après. Distribution: Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) Gnome Release: 2.16.1 2006-10-02 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0 Memory status: size: 374865920 vsize: 0 resident: 374865920 share: 0 rss: 165040128 rss_rlim: 0 CPU usage: start_time: 1177957304 rtime: 0 utime: 1957 stime: 0 cutime:1863 cstime: 0 timeout: 94 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 0 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution-2.8' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!
Personal communication with the user: Maher wrote: > I'm sorry but I'm not able to do what you told me to do, because I'm not > enough comfortable in using Ubuntu. > I read all the informations to install the packages, but I don't > understand where they are and how to install them. Maybe it's because I > don't speak a good english. I'm guessing that your main language is French, and so I can point you towards the Ubuntu guides on modifying sources.list files in French at http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/installation/debutants/modif_sources_list http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/mode_demploi_pour_paresseux#installer_les_programmes_de_base will then tell you how to install new packages. The packages we need to get a better trace are evolution-dbgsym, libebook1.2-9-dbgsym, evolution-data-server-dbgsym and evolution-plugins-dbgsym.
Personal communication with reporter: Thank you for redirecting me to the right documentation. I followed every step of the documentation (modifying the source.list, update and upgrade). But what doesn't work is, for example, sudo apt-get install evolution-dbgsym or the others packages you told me to install. The error message is : impossible to find the xxx package (it's a translation from french). I tried with Synaptic and found somethings that look like the packages you want me to install but they don't finish by sym :evolution-dbgsym is evolution-dbg in Synaptic but in the description it's about debug and symbol. I've installed them and retried the steps to make Evolution crash. That means I selected the mail I wished to follow to another e-mail correspondent, contening 4 JPEG photos of 530 Mbytes, and the new mail appears where I normally could put the recipient but it crashes before I can do anything. I don't if what you want worked for me, but here si what I can copy/paste from Bug Buddy : Distribution: Ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) Gnome Release: 2.16.1 2006-10-02 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.16.0 Memory status: size: 308248576 vsize: 0 resident: 308248576 share: 0 rss: 117092352 rss_rlim: 0 CPU usage: start_time: 1178032264 rtime: 0 utime: 1424 stime: 0 cutime:1340 cstime: 0 timeout: 84 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 0 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/evolution-2.8' Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". That's much better. We can now find out that this is a duplicate of bug 351374, which should be fixed in the next version of Evolution - possibly in Evolution 2.10, which is available in Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn". Upgrade instructions to "Feisty Fawn" (in French) are at http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/installation/migration_edgy_feisty (Your emails to me are duplicated here because we like to keep all communication about bugs on the Bugzilla. For future reference, you should add comments to bugs rather than emailing the person replying to the bugs) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 351374 ***
