Description MikeM 2007-04-29 22:54:27 UTC
Please describe the problem:
If I want to use my system theme color for the gnucash register color he only sets the background color, but not the text color and cell border color. This is a problem if you use for example "contrast inverse" as system theme color with black background and white text color. In this case you have in the gnucash register black text on blaxk back background and you can see nothing. With the blaxk cell border it is the same.
The problem is a optic problem, but very big for peaple with low vision (bad eyes) like me who need to work with black background and white text.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Choose a system color theme with black background.
2. Chose system theme for gnucash register color.

Actual results:
You will see nothing (black text an black background)

Expected results:
The text color and cell border color should be like defined in system theme color and not black in every case.

Does this happen every time?
yes

Other information:
This is a big problem for visually handicapped peaple.

also dont't work with GnuCash 2.0.2

Comment#0 confirmed with 2.1.1... using the white-on-dark high-contrast theme, the register is useless; all the text is black.

Once I click on a transaction, I get black-on-pink.

(I also notice our nifty tango icons don't have high-contrast variants.)

I didn't confirm Comment#1, which should be a separate bug, actually.

Still there in 2.2.5. Doesn't seem like anything has happened in past year on this bug. Maybe this will be the excuse I need to get a build going and fix it myself.
Comment 4 Tao Yue 2008-05-07 03:31:03 UTC
I forgot to mention: It's not just the register. Currency columns in account tree also have the same problem, even when "Use system colors" is unchecked. I suspect the "in-the-red" and "in-the-black" paradigm must be hard-coded.

I think best behavior is: use the "Negative amounts display in red" option to determine whether or not to override system colors, i.e. whether positive amounts also display in black.

Also, this problem may be related to the problems Gnucash has in displaying in 256-color mode when run across Remote Desktop. There, items also drop out and become invisible.

Comment 6 Geert Janssens 2014-09-02 13:42:26 UTC
This bug has been open for a while now and I have looked into it on and off with limited success.

And the comments so far are actually pointing at two independent issues.

The first one, hard coded colors in the account hierarchy as mentioned in comment 4 and comment 5 is a separate bug: bug 707243.

So I'll focus on the hard coded colors in the register pages instead. I'm happy to inform you I finally managed to fix this. The fix will appear in the next stable release of GnuCash (2.6.4).

Thank you for your patience.
