Description bfrank 2001-09-10 00:41:02 UTC
Following is the proposed tree hierarchy. We should work with John Lathrop to
test some of his DocBook converted documentation launching from the sidebar and
showing up in the GNOME help browser within Nautilus...

Where can I get the DocBook version of the docs?

------- Additional Comments From mjs@noisehavoc.org 2000-10-03 15:34:27 ----

Not sure what this task will entail exactly; there is already a help tree, it
should only require checking in the docs and arranging them properly.

same question as maciej: where can I get the framemaker version of the docs ?
Will prolly wite a script to convert between the raw sgml output of framemaker
and docbook sgml...

------- Additional Comments From bfrank@eazel.com 2000-11-06 13:14:31 ----

Bug mostly resolved. There is now a tree item in the help menu, however,
there's not a tree conforming to "Nautilus Manual Help Hierarchy". Mathieu has
stated this is not possible in the current implementation of the Help navigation
tree.

Therefore, either this bug can be resolved because we have one help tree
navigation item, or it can get reopenned for a new milestone because the
hierarchy is not there. Waiting for clarification to verify bug.

Have talked with Bud, and I'm moving this bug to usable, and making a P6 so it
can be reprioritized after the PR2 milestone.

This bug was closed by Mathieu because the base level of this bug was done
(added a Nautilus item to the "Help" tab, "Applications" tree). However, the
bug is actually a feature add to the "Help" tab in general to have more complete
trees with Chapter titles under the initial link.

------- Additional Comments From mathieu@gnome.org 2000-11-08 17:27:58 ----

ok. there are 2 solutions:
1) gross hack in the help browser by hardogin the nautilus help stuff in it.
(my prefered solution)
2) think about a UI design to make the help sidebar actually also display the
content tree of the documents it has available...

------- Additional Comments From mathieu@gnome.org 2000-11-14 22:09:04 ----

please, I need someone to make a decision: do I just do a gross hack in the help
view to make the nautilus thingy apear or do I need to make it do the same for
all items ?

Brian and Arlo: this is for you to decide. The sooner, the better of course.

------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2000-11-28 17:21:03 ----

We have to decide on this ASAP, since there is potential followup work. I vote
for doing nothing, to help our chances of shipping.

------- Additional Comments From don@eazel.com 2001-01-15 19:46:55 ----

This is a feature that I've somehow missed. We can't get this done for PR3.
Let's move it to 1.0.1.

------- Additional Comments From bfrank@eazel.com 2001-01-16 09:05:32 ----

This is fine. Just confirm with Dan Mueth and Vera that this doesn't affect
their documentation plans.

Duane is now the proud new QA owner of 'Sidebar', and 'Sidebar Panel: (Other)'.

QA Assigning to self.

------- Additional Comments From darin@bentspoon.com 2001-04-02 15:28:31 ----

Isn't this done already?

------- Additional Comments From sullivan@eazel.com 2001-04-02 15:35:41 ----

There are now chapter titles for the Nautilus manual, so I'm marking this FIXED.

------- Additional Comments From eli@eazel.com 2001-04-05 11:26:23 ----

Well, there's a tree hierarchy now. I didn't meticulously compare every single
item word-for-word, but they look identical on a one-minute check.

Lazily rubber-stamping verified. CC:ing Dan and John Fleck in case they have
anything to add.
