Description Raptor Ramjet 2007-04-28 15:47:39 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I am attempting to use Sound Juicer I wish to set up an MP3 profile. However I cannot do so from Sound Juicer as when I go to "Edit" > "Preferences" > "Edit Profile" and select a profile the profile is displayed but in a read only fashion as the cursor is stuck before the first character of the "Profile Name" field and I cannot either edit or display any fields (e.g. I can't scroll down the description),

Additionally I am unable to dismiss the dialogue (clicking "Close" does nothing nor does clicking the "x" on the dialogue window) until I have dismissed the "Edit Gnome Audio Profiles" dialogue.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Sound Juicer.
2. Select "Edit" > "Preferences" > "Edit Profile".
3. Become confronted with read only dialogue that cannot be dismissed.
4. Close the "Edit Gnome Audio Profiles" dialogue.
5. Give up in frustration, switch to Windows machine and use CDEX instead which "Just Works" (tm).

Actual results:
I am unable to edit my profiles.

Expected results:
I should be able to edit my profiles.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
CDEX is a far superior ripping tool to anything offered on Linux. Sorry but that's simply true. On Winderz you install CDEX after which you select what settings you want (in my case VBR using the "alt-preset-extreme" preset, writing both ID3 and ID£v2 tags) after which you simply insert your CD, do a freedb lookup (or type the values in if it's something obscure) click a single button and wait for your MP3s. Lovely, simple and straightforward.

In comparison on Linux it takes about three years to find the right forum post which tells you what command line magic is required this week to get the codecs installed. Finally you manage to rip an mp3 which is at the wrong bitrate and without IDV tags.

P.S. There is also no option to specify "Album Artist, Album Year, Album Title" as a folder hierarchy option. Personally I always order my stuff so the folder would be:

   Artist Name/Album Year Album Name/nn-Track Name.extension

Where "nn" is the track number. e.g.

   A Rotten Band/2005 A Rotten Album/01-A Rotten Song.mp3

Once again cdex allows me to specify this in the preferences... So it looks like CDEX and wine for dinner tonight :)
